The winter salt market is under significant pressure this season.
Frequent and sustained weather events this season have depleted industry stockpiles. As a result, readily available bulk salt has become more challenging to source.
The price of bulk salt has increased materially at the source. To date, Draglam Salt has absorbed much of this increase in an effort to maintain stability for our customers. However, rising material and transportation costs – combined with the need to source product beyond traditional channels – continue to put upward pressure on pricing, and further increases will be unavoidable.
Our focus remains on honouring existing commitments. Customers with signed quotes with allocated volumes continue to be prioritized, and we are working diligently to manage inventory responsibly so that those volumes can be fulfilled throughout the season.
To support continuity of supply, we have implemented daily pickup limits. These measures are intended to ensure availability not just during individual events, but across the full winter season.
We are also recommending sand and salt blends as an effective and more accessible alternative in many applications. Sand and salt improves traction, reduces overall salt usage, and supports responsible inventory management during periods of constrained supply.
Draglam Salt will continue to monitor supply conditions closely and communicate transparently as the situation evolves.
